Hackers target Dave & Buster's

LONG ISLAND One specific Dave & Buster's on Long Island may have lost more than $600,000.

Dave & Buster's is a place where people go for fun. They have big-screen TVs, video games and gourmet-style fast food. But what happened to customers there is just another example of how vulnerable our financial sector really is.

Federal prosecutors say 11 Dave & Buster's restaurants at several locations around the U.S. were hit in the scam, including one in Islandia, on Long Island.

Officials say between May and September of last year, information from about 5,000 credit and debit cards was stolen from that location, causing at least $600,000 in losses.

Investigators say the criminals did it with a "packet sniffer," which they describe as a malicious software used to illegally access private information.

Some restaurants -- including one in Westbury -- are trying to determine if they were targeted.

Here's who is affected:

Thousands of Dave & Busters customers who used credit or debit cards from May to September of last year at 11 locations.

Two other Long Island Dave and Busters are still under investigation.
