Banegas was ordered held without bail and told to return to court on Tuesday.
The victim, Dharam Paul, of Valley Stream, was found fatally stabbed multiple times on Feb. 17. A customer discovered him on the floor of the Hicksville service station store.
Banegas was represented by a public defender; the district attorney's office did not have the lawyer's name on record.
