The driver pulled over on northbound Interstate 684 and the students got off the bus before it was fully in flames.

The 40 scared seventh graders watched, many of them yelling, as fire enveloped the bus.

No injuries were reported.

The fire appeared to have started in a mechanical area in the rear under carriage of the bus.

A second bus arrived more than two hours later to take the students to Boston to continue their trip.

The bus was one of four leased from a local company to take the students to Boston, where they planned to spend the night.
