Getting the most from a tank of gas

NEW YORK Michelle Mount, of AAA New Jersey, says that so far, prices have gone up 60 percent since the first of the year.

"People are having to dig a little deeper in their pockets to pay for gas," she said.

So getting the most mileage out of each gallon of gas you buy is important. But that's something that can be hard to figure out.

Now, a new social networking site called Moblu.ca is helping to make it a little easier. It's free to join. Members simply enter the details of each fill-up, including date, odometer reading, quantity of gas and price per gallon. Moblu then calculates the mileage and plots the results on a chart to show your progress, or lack of it, in curbing your car's appetite for fuel.

Mount, however, isn't convinced this Web site is for everyone.

"I think it could be a good tool, but it's not for the mass public," she said.

But driver Kathleen Esaw likes the idea of putting information into a Web site to save money.

"I most definitely would, because I go to work every day and I want to know how much gas I spend," she said. "I have to travel."

So the experts say, use a social networking site if you want, or use AAA's Web site. It will help you plan a trip and calculate your gas expenses.
