The small town of Garfield is stunned.
"When something like this happens there is always that element of concern," said one resident.
Kathleen Rebisz works next door to the crime scene. She says she came into work around 10am and saw the police barricades.
Detectives spent the day here looking around the flower shop for evidence.
The victim is Michael Murphy.
He was 56-year-old, a CPA, and also the owner of G and M wholesale flowers.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor's office, the victim was last seen at his desk in the building at about 9am by a deliveryman.
Investigators say the deliveryman returned a half-hour later and found Murphy dead.
Late into the night the motive remained under investigation, and so police have not been able to fully explain what happened to his family.
They gathered in Montvale at the victim's home.
Understandably, they refused to comment.
