All southbound lanes are reopened after a Postal Service tractor trailer burst into flames on the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens Tuesday morning. The truck, which was not carrying mail, caught fire in the southbound lanes, south of Jewel Avenue, just before 4:30 a.m.

The trailer was quickly engulfed in flames.

The driver escaped the rig and was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Southbound lanes of the Van Wyck Expressway were closed, and traffic was diverted to Jewel Avenue. The truck was removed around 6:30 a.m., and all lanes reopened just before 7 a.m.
