NEW YORK
The Department of Education finalized the first part of its closures list Thursday and announced rest Friday.
There were 47 schools are under consideration, including 20 elementary and middle schools and 21 high schools. Half a dozen of them are charter schools.
Ninteen schools are now slated for closure, including Jane Addams High School For Academic Careers in the Bronx, where students were recently alleged to have gotten credits for classes they did not take.
Six other schools will lose their middle school grades, 6 through 8.
The 19 schools proposed for phase-out are:
