Overturned tractor-trailer snarls BQE in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN

The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. on the northbound side the highway, just past Atlantic Avenue, where the northbound lanes travel above the southbound lanes.

The cab of the truck was hanging over the guardrail, above the southbound lanes. Tow trucks arrived on the scene and dragged the truck entirely back onto the northbound section, but the roof broke open and spilled the contents onto the roadway.

All northbound lanes are shut down, with traffic being diverted off at Atlantic Avenue. Delays backed up all the was to the Gowanus, near the Belt Parkway merge.

Southbound lanes are again open, but traffic was further hampered by rubbernecking delays.

The truck was uprighted just after 6:30 a.m. and removed by 7:30, but debris and a fuel spill still littered the roadway. All lanes were reopend shortly after 8 a.m., with delays lingering.
