Mayor Bill de Blasio eats pizza with a fork again - in Italy

NAPLES (WABC) -- New York City Bill de Blasio, who stirred up controversy by eating pizza with a knife and fork on Staten Island, has done it again - this time on his trip to Italy.

The mayor was spotted slicing the pizza while having lunch Wednesday with his family in Naples.

While eating lunch in January in a meeting with business owners at a Goodfella's Pizza on Staten Island, the mayor used a knife and fork to eat his slice.

That's a no-no for most New Yorkers, who are very opinionated when it comes to pizza. Most advocate using their hands to hold the slice, folding it over and then taking a bite.

Photos of de Blasio using the knife and fork were posted to Twitter and prompted mock outrage on several blogs and social media websites.

De Blasio later explained that he eats pizza the way they do in Italy. He starts with a knife and fork, then uses his hands.

He also noted that his slice had a lot of toppings.

The fork he used was later sold at auction for $2,500.
