East Orange accident victims identified

EAST ORANGE, N.J. (WABC) -- Three people killed in a horrific crash in New Jersey Wednesday night have been identified, officials said.

The accident happened on South Grove Street near the intersection of Central Avenue in East Orange, at approximately 8:50 p.m.

The 3 who died have been identified as Tyrief A. Parker, 24, of East Orange; Kabeer K. Bishop, 20, of Newark and Dean Scovil, 24, of East Orange. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death was blunt impact injuries. The three young men, who were in a Nissan Maxima, collided with a Toyota 4-Runner.

The two women in the Toyota 4-Runner were a 74-year-old mother and her 54-year-old daughter. Both are from Irvington. They were transported to University Hospital. Their names are not being released at this time. The 54-year-old daughter has been released from the hospital. Her mother remains hospitalized, but she is expected to survive.

While questions persist about how the tragedy unfolded, the one thing that's clear is the violence of the impact. The aftermath was a scene of devastation, with the mangled remains of the cars littering the roadway, damaged almost beyond recognition.

Authorities say the Toyota 4-Runner was traveling south on South Grove Street when it collided head on with the Nissan Maxima, which was northbound on South Grove.

The vehicles involved in the crash stopped near an occupied New Jersey Transit bus, which was not involved in the collision. Several passengers aboard the B90 bus out of Newark, headed to Irvington, suffered minor injuries which occurred when the bus stopped.

The investigation into the accident is continuing. No charges have been filed.
