George Washington Bridge reopens after tractor-trailer flips in high wind

NEW YORK (WABC) -- All lanes of the George Washington Bridge had reopened Thursday morning after a tractor-trailer overturned Wednesday night, apparently due to high winds.

The truck had been in the eastbound lanes when it was blown into the westbound lanes on the outbound upper level around 9:15 p.m. The upper level was closed.

There were no injuries, no summonses were issued and all restrictions were lifted by 7 a.m. Thursday.

The driver of the truck is from Pennsylvania and was traveling from Punxsutawney, Pa.

Winds were at about 50 mph, and there was a tractor-trailer ban on the bridge Wednesday night because of the strong wind.

Bridge Operations confirmed that the tractor-trailer ban was on instituted after the truck overturned. The truck ban for the upper level of the George Washington Bridge was put into effect at around 9:40 p.m.

There were major backups through midnight Thursday morning.
