HICKSVILLE -- Police on Long Island have arrested a man they say fatally shot someone more than 16 years ago.

Nassau County police say Balkumar Singh was extradited Friday from Trinidad.

The 38-year-old is accused of fatally shooting another man at a wedding reception in June 1999.

Police say Singh had been arguing with the victim, 19-year-old Azbal Khan, at the Masonic Temple in Hicksville.

They say he pulled out a gun during the encounter and shot Khan multiple times.

Singh was arrested by Trinidadian authorities in March, but was brought to the U.S. on Friday.

Police say he was arrested on a second-degree murder charge and will appear in court Monday.

It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
