Police: LIE accident leads to tractor trailer theft, pedestrian hit

HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. (WABC) -- A crash on the Long Island Expressway led to a chaotic chain of events late Wednesday night.

According to police, Jonathan Moore, 26, of Westbury, was arrested, and charged with leaving the scene of an incident and DWI.

Moore was driving near Exit 62 on the LIE in Holtsville around 11:45 p.m. when he crashed and fled the scene, police said.

Another man chased him across the South Service Road of the expressway, and was hit by a van and taken to the hospital with a serious injury to his leg.

Police said Moore then ran into Pride Solvents & Chemical Co. at 6 Long Island Ave. in Holtsville, and drove off with a tractor-trailer from the business parking lot. He drove about 7 miles, and crashed at Route 112 and East Roe Boulevard in Patchogue. Police took him into custody after a short pursuit on foot.
