NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- Two disability rights groups say New York City is violating the Americans with Disibilities Act and wants to make sidewalks safer for the blind and those who use wheelchairs.
Disabilty Rights Advocates is working with the Center for Independence of the Disabled to force the city to upgrade sidewalks, particularly those in Lower Manhattan.
The groups filed a lawsuit against the city Wednesday.
Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg responded to the lawsuit by saying over 90 percent of New York's street corners feature pedestrian ramps.
She says safety improvements are designed with a focus on the most vulnerable users, including those with disabilities.
