ROCKAWAY BEACH, Queens (WABC) -- Rockaway Beach is closed to swimmers due to multiple shark sightings.

Officials with NYC Parks said swimmers were removed from the water Wednesday around 3 p.m. due to sightings across the length of the beach.

Swimming had to be halted multiple times at various beaches on Long Island last month after sharks were seen, including an incident in which a lifeguard may have been bitten.

Few other details regarding the sightings at Rockaway Beach were released.
