LANDOVER, Md. --New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers had the first touchdown reception of his career late in the first half of Sunday's matchup with the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium.

Nabers, the sixth overall pick in this year's draft out of LSU, lined up on the left side of the formation with 12 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

He ran across the field unguarded and easily corralled a pass in the middle of the end zone from quarterback Daniel Jones as he tumbled to the ground for the 4-yard score to give New York a 12-9 lead.

That pass snapped a streak of 151 straight attempts without a touchdown for Jones. Nabers has quickly become his favorite target.

The explosive receiver had three catches for 38 yards on the touchdown drive just before halftime. He forced two missed tackles and had 26 yards after the catch on his first two grabs. Nabers had five catches on eight targets for 73 yards in the first half.

It was the first time Jones and Nabers had connected on a touchdown pass, including the preseason. It was Jones' first touchdown pass since Week 2 of last season, when he threw two scoring darts in the second half of a comeback win over the Arizona Cardinals.
