Teen accused of attacking girl near Spring Valley High School

SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. (WABC) -- A teenager is facing charges after an assault on a student near Spring Valley High School Wednesday.

Police say the boy, 16-year old Savion Lewallen, roughed up and hit a 15-year old girl on a wooded trail that leads to the school.

He allegedly held her against her will for up to 90 minutes. "He grabbed her, held her down on the ground," said Spring Valley Police Chief Paul Modica. "She fought, and this was over an extended period of time. During the process he took her cell phone so she couldn't call for help.

The girl was checked out at the hospital not seriously injured. Police say there was no weapon involved.

Lewallen is charged as an adult with kidnapping, assault and robbery.

According to police, the suspect ran south in the woods and hid, trying to get back to his house, but was eventually found about an hour later.

The girl had an order of protection against him after a similar incident a couple of weeks ago when he had interest in her and she rebuffed him, authorities said. Lewallen is also charged with violating the order of protection.

Spokesperson for East Ramapo Central School District Darren Dopp said that the school was placed on lockdown while police investigated.

A large manhunt followed involving several police departments in Rockland County. The suspect was found on Chestnut Ridge Road near the New Jersey border.

The suspect was taken into custody and the lockdown was lifted.
