New York Road Runners announced Monday that 59,226 runners finished the race, topping last year's marathon record of 55,646 by more than 3,500 racers.
It's a tradition that dates back more than 40 years and inspires runners as they make their way through Brooklyn.
The Villavicencio family -- Rodrigo, James and Justin -- will have three generations running in the race for the first time on race day side by side.
The free event featured more than 1,000 kids ages 2-18 from across the five boroughs.
