Watch a timelapse video showing a powerful storm move into New York City.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Strong thunderstorms packing damaging winds blasted through the New York City region Monday, causing flash flooding and knocking down trees.



The storms moved from the west through the area late Monday afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to issue severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings for many parts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

A tree came down in Riverside Park. Thankfully, no one was running underneath it at the time.

High winds from the storm caused a tree to come down on a home in New Jersey.



Driving home proved slow going and treacherous as roads turned into rivers in New Rochelle. Parts of the Cross Bronx Expressway were deep under the water causing long delays.



In Rosedale, Queens, on 147th Drive you could hear a babbling brook on the street as the floodwater continued to slowly drain out.



It caused caused some damage in NYC. Here are the storm reports:



A second round of storms then moved into the NYC area about an hour later, before making its way over Long Island.
