Cops stabbed, suspect shot in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. The violence happened just before 3:30 a.m. when a team of police officers and state troopers on an anti-crime patrol approached the suspect in downtown Middletown.

A fight broke out, and authorities said Detective Sgt. Gerald Mishk of the Middletown police department was stabbed several times. A senior State Police investigator, Kevin McGrath, was also stabbed. Another trooper then shot and wounded the suspect.

All three men were taken to Orange Regional Medical Center for treatment. The officers were out of surgery and in stable condition Saturday afternoon.

The suspect's name was not immediately released.
