Congressman Chris Murphy has won as second term in the U.S. House of Representatives. The 5th District Democrat, who represents portions of western Connecticut, defeated state Sen. David Cappiello on Tuesday. With 56 percent of precincts reporting, Murphy was leading 57 percent to 41 percent.

Cappiello was supported by President Bush and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in his campaign, but Murphy has raised more than $2 million to fund his re-election campaign.

The election was Murphy's first since toppling 12-term Republican Rep. Nancy Johnson in 2006.
