An investigation was initiated at that time, and the 37-year-old Ordonez was arrested Monday morning just before he got on a plane to Ecuador. He was arraigned and is due back in court December 18.
Ordonez, assigned to the St Vito's Parish, is charged with one count of first-degree sexual abuse.
The Rev. James Healy, pastor at St. Vito's, did not return a call to the Associated Press.
Joe Zwilling, spokesman for the New York Archdiocese, said Ordonez, who is from Ecuador, is not a priest of the archdiocese but was working in New York "with permission," which has now been withdrawn.
