Police-involved shooting in Roselle

ROSELLE The victim, 26-year-old Andre Doss, is in stable condition at University Hospital in Newark.

His injuries have been described as non-life-threatening.

Doss works for his father's contracting business, located at 1100 block of St. Georges Avenue.

Eyewitness News is told police arrived at the business just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. It is unclear why police were at the scene, but what happened next left the allegedly unarmed Doss shot in the chest.

The shooting is under investigation by authorities.

His mother says that police told her that the officer slipped on wet pavement and the gun went off accidentally -- wounding her son. But Doss told her a different story.

"He told me the officers kicked in the front door, and when he opened up the solid door, he was immediately shot by police," the victim's mother, Rhonda Juilius, said.

This is the second time this week police in Union County have allegedly fired at an unarmed man.

Fuquan Stribling, 25, of Newark, remains in stable condition at University Hospital, as well. He reportedly shot seven times by Hillside police when his car was parked in an alley.

That shooting also remains under investigation.
