Free vacations with Fresh Air Fund

July 2, 2009 12:52:20 PM PDT
The Fresh Air Fund is launched its 132nd summer Thursday as the first group of New York City children left to spend free two-week vacations with volunteer host families in suburban and small-town communities. The event kicked off at the Port Authoritiy Bus Terminal as 80 children, ages 6 to 18, boarded buses for Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia and Virginia.

In 2009, close to 5,000 children will visit families in 13 states, from Virginia to Maine and Canada. The fund has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.7 million youngsters from disadvantaged communities since 1877.

And it's not to late to sign up to get a free vacation or to host a child. Visit FreshAir.org.
