Elderly man killed in Newark hit and run

NEWARK The driver then sped away, leaving 74-year-old Jacques Mabour to die alone in the street.

Detectives claim he was struck while crossing the street by someone driving a black Jaguar.

When people heard the comotion, they ran to the street, many taking photos of the paramedics working frantically to save Mabour's life.

The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

To his friends and family, Mabour was known as Jack. He was a man who seemed to know everyone in his Newark neighborhood, where they gathered to share their grief over his tragic death.

Police believe the 2010 four-door Jaguar, which allegedly had side mirror damage, was stolen from South Orange. Police released the New Jersey license plate number YKW59M in hopes of finding someone who may have more information about the incident.
