Mom of slain 5-year-old draws scrutiny from NJ

PATERSON A report by New Jersey's Department of Children and Families says the state is investigating the mother of 5-year-old Daron Mayes for violating policy by allowing her 23-year-old son to move back into her home in Paterson.

Jalik Jones has been charged with reckless manslaughter and firearms violations for alleging owning an illegally bought .380 handgun that he kept in a bedroom he shared with Daron.

Daron and two of the children were adopted by Margaret Mayes this year.

The report says she violated policy by not telling the agency that Jones had moved into the house.
