Free water taxi to Mets games at Citi Field

New York Delta Airlines, which is the official airline and a sponsor of the New York Mets, together with New York Water Taxi, are launching a free water taxi service.

The taxi will run free for the rest of the 2010 season.

The complimentary public transportation to the games, begins Tuesday with a 5:40 p.m. departure from Pier 11 at Wall Street for the second game of the Mets-Dodgers doubleheader.

Mets rightfielder, Jeff Francoeur, helped christen the vessel earlier Tuesday.

The specially wrapped Delta Baseball Water Taxi - co-branded with the New York Mets - will depart 90 minutes before the first pitch from Pier 11.

The shuttle drops passengers off at the World's Fair Marina, a short walk from Citi Field. Fans are guaranteed to arrive at the dock 30 minutes before the scheduled start of the game.

Once on board, passengers can treat themselves to Delta signature "Fly Ball" cocktails, cold beer, soft drinks and snacks on the Water Taxi's open air top deck or while watching pre-game coverage on the large screen TVs inside the climate controlled interior deck, fueling baseball fever en route to the ballpark.

"As the official airline of New York baseball, we are thrilled to partner with New York Water Taxi to launch complimentary service to all home games this season," said Gail Grimmett, Delta's senior vice president of New York. "We know how much New Yorker's love their two hometown baseball teams and, as a proud sponsor of our both, we are delighted to offer Delta's award-winning service to two special destinations all season long."

The Delta Baseball Water Taxis do not take phone reservations. Seating is limited to 147 passengers per Water Taxi and tickets can be picked up at Pier 11/Wall St., as early as two hours prior to departure.

The water taxi will also operate to Yankees games at Yankee Stadium.

A limited number of tickets will also be available online at www.nywatertaxi.com (there is a $1 per ticket service charge for print-at-home tickets). A limit of four tickets per person, per game applies.

Please note: service is only provided to the game; there is no post-game return service back to Manhattan. Fans can take mass transit home from Mets games.

The 7 train is the fast, convenient, and "green" way to travel back to Manhattan following the game. For more details visit www.mta.info and click on "Take the Train to the Game"™ or call New York City Transit at 718-330-1234.
