3rd person charged in case of body in burning car

FREEHOLD, N.J.

Anthony Morris, 31, of Long Branch is charged with arson for hire, tampering with physical evidence, desecrating human remains, hindering apprehension and conspiracy to commit arson, prosecutor Luis Valentin said.

Morris is being held on $500,000 cash bail at the Monmouth County Jail. He faces more than 36 years in prison if convicted on all charges. It was not clear whether he has retained a lawyer.

The charges stem from the death of 42-year-old Stephen Moore of Manchester, whose body was found Aug. 18 inside the trunk of his mother's burned car in Long Branch.

Moore's ex-wife, Kathleen Dorsett of Ocean Township, and her father, Thomas Dorsett, were arrested this week on murder and other charges.

Kathleen Dorsett remained jailed Wednesday on $1.5 million bail, and her father's bail was raised to $3 million Wednesday after prosecutors filed additional charges of arson for hire and conspiracy to commit arson and/or desecration of human remains. He remained under guard Wednesday at a local hospital, Valentin said, but further details were not disclosed.

Kathleen Dorsett and Stephen Moore were married in 2007 and divorced in June. Authorities say Moore was last seen dropping off the couple's 20-month-old daughter at Dorsett's home on Aug. 16.
