A high speed chase took place in New Jersey Monday evening.

An off-duty Hudson County Sheriff's officer spotted a yellow taxicab that had been reported stolen out of Jersey City earlier in the day.

The officer flagged down a Bayonne police cruiser, who then attempted to pull the cab over.

The driver took off down Route 440, and a high-speed chase ensued.

In an attempt to elude the chasing officers, the driver of the cab made a hard turn and flipped.

He was extricated from the vehicle with the help of Port Authority ESU officers and taken to a local hospital.

There may have been shots fired during the course of the chase

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office is investigating because police may have fired their weapons.

No Bayonne officers were injured in the chase.
