Firefighters injured in Crown Heights

CROWN HEIGHTS

Flames could be seen shooting from a second floor apartment at a Prospect Place brownstone just after 9:00 this morning.

Two firefighters were trapped on the third floor of the burning brownstone, and at least one had to tumble through the flames to safety.

They both sustained second degree burns and are listed in very serious condition at the burn unit at Cornell Medical Center.

Both men were burned over a percentage of their bodies, but they did not sustain respiratory burns. They are alert and talking in the hospital, and their injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The firefighters are both assigned to FDNY Rescue 2 in Brooklyn.

All five firefighters were taken to area hospitals. The other three suffered less serious injuries.

It took more than 100 firefighters about an hour to put out the two-alarm fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
