Hackettstown lockdown over; threat unfounded

HACKETTSTOWN

The incident started around 9:30 a.m., when law enforcement officials in Warren County say they received a call reporting a person with a rifle in the woods near Hackettstown High School.

Hackettstown schools and Centenary College, which are all in the same general area, were locked down out of an abundance of caution.

Police searched for the person on the ground while New Jersey state police had a helicopter searching from the air, but there were no confirmed sightings of the person.

Just before 2 p.m., officials directed the Hackettstown School District to lift the lockdown after it was determined that the students, schools and community were safe. Authorities say the threat was unfounded, and the nature of the threat is a matter of an ongoing investigation.
