Dharun Ravi reports to jail in Rutgers webcam case

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.

Twenty-year-old Dharun Ravi arrived at the sheriff's department in New Brunswick, N.J., shortly after 12:30 p.m. to be fingerprinted and photographed before being driven to the county jail to serve a 30-day term.

He was dressed in a T-shirt, khakis and canvas sneakers. His father and two other people followed him into the sheriff's department, where they hugged him before exiting.

Ravi's roommate, Tyler Clementi, committed suicide in September 2010, days after Ravi used a webcam to see him kissing another man.

He could have remained free while prosecutors appeal his sentence, but agreed Wednesday to serve his jail sentence now.
