Song sparks controversy at kindergarten graduation

CONEY ISLAND

/*Lee Greenwood*/'s "God Bless The USA" has been dropped from the playlist, but "Baby" by Justin Bieber is still on the list.

The ceremony is June 20th.

Some parents don't understand why a song about teenage love can be performed, but a patriotic song can't.

Principal Greta Hawkins decided these lyrics from this verse in Greenwood's song are not age appropriate:

"If tomorrow all the things were gone, I'd worked for all my life. And I had to start again, with just my children and my wife."

It has become a polarizing issue not just among parents, but also for the community. The NYPD Hate Crimes Unit is now investigating hateful handwritten letters sent to Hawkins.
