NYPD increases security after DC shooting

NEW YORK

The NYPD is taking precautions by stepping up security and placing more officers outside military recruiting stations, including the one in Times Square.

Focusing on military recruiting stations, the one in Times Square is one of the most well-known and often visited, a police officer now stands guard and many others are on patrol nearby.

"They are supposed to keep us safe. But when things like that happen, it's just horrible, you know," one person said.

The NYPD said in a statement, "Out of an abundance of caution we redeployed critical response vehicles to select locations such as military recruiting stations as we monitor the events in Washington. There is nothing yet that indicates a threat."

Still with numerous killings on yet another military base, police and security experts must take precautions in other cities until the full extent of the treat is known.

"I see them all the time. I work right across the street. So in the Times Square area there is always law enforcement visible," a New Yorker said.

As people move through the busy cross roads of the world, many people Eyewitness News spoke to want to see the heightened security presence and believe it does offer a deterrent.
