Pedestrian killed by sanitation truck in Crown Heights

A community is mourning a Rabbinic student who was killed by a sanitation truck Sunday morning in Brooklyn.

It happened at about 9 a.m. at the intersection of Kingston Avenue and Carroll Street in the Crown Heights section.

Police say the 25-year-old man was walking across Carroll Street in Crown Heights when he was hit by a truck making a right turn.

Responding officers found the man in the street with severe head trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.

Police say the driver of the truck remained on the scene. An investigation is underway.

The Daily News is reporting that the victim was from Ukraine and was studying to be a rabbi in Morristown, New Jersey.
