Rebuilders Source

NEW YORK Well rather than throwing out used building materials, there's an eco-friendly company giving them new life.

And it means deals for shoppers.

Eyewitness News reporter Lauren Glassberg joins us with more on this venture.

This company opened a couple of months ago and already, their repeat shoppers and some shoppers are bypassing some of the bigger, more established building supply stores and opting for this community based one.

Beautiful French doors-- they would have ended up in the trash. But now they're on sale in the Bronx.

"New York City throws out all that stuff," director Omar Freilla said.

Stuff that can be used again, and that's the premise behind Rebuilders Source in the south Bronx.

Juan Varela is shopping for cabinets and tiles. He got some help from Yasin York, one of the owners.

Rebuilders Source came into being with the help of green workers cooperatives- an incubator for worker owned businesses that are green.

Omar Freilla is its director.

"It's about green community," Freilla said. "People are ready to not throwing things away."

The church several blocks away, loved the concept and the savings. They bought lots of paint from Rebuilders Source.

A good deal, good for you conscience, good for the community, and what's more - Rebuilders will pick up what you don't want for free. And you can take a tax deduction.
