Public invited to sign 9/11 memorial beams

NEW YORK Mayor Michael Bloomberg opened the event on Wednesday at Battery Park in Lower Manhattan.

Participants also are invited to write "notes of hope" to be preserved in the museum.

The signings are being held on Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The project was taken to 25 states last year. Tens of thousands of people signed the beams and shared their reflections on 9/11 in "notes of hope."
