Murder mystery in Garrison

GARRISON, N.Y. On New Year's Eve, John Marcinak was found lying in the snow just steps in front of the garage he owned.

Initially, police thought the 49-year old was the victim of a hit and run, but in the hospital, it was discovered Marcinak had been shot several times.

The married father of three had been named a life member of the Garrison Fire Department, honored for years of service in the community.

The firehouse, which is now covered in black and purple bunting, is directly across the street from the garage and a second home of sorts for the Marcinak family.

Marcinak operated a towing business. Garrison Garage was used as a backdrop for scenes in the 1995 film "Smoke" starring Harvey Keitel.

Now it's the scene of a real life drama with police hoping someone saw something on the snowy road that made for a difficult crime scene to process.

Marcinak is survived by his wife and three young children.
