Cop car jumps curb, hits pedestrians

LOWER EAST SIDE The incident happened on the Lower East Side around 4:20 p.m. near Avenue D and 5th Street.

Police say a five pedestrians, the two officers in the cruiser, and a driver and passenger in the other car were hospitalized for minor injuries.

Initially, it was believed a 3-month-old infant in a stroller was among those struck. But it appears that the mother was able to get the child out of the way in time. Officials say the severest injury was a broken leg.

Authorities say the officers were responding to a call.
