Elderly man struck, killed while eluding cars

BAY RIDGE Authorities say the victim was crossing 4th Avenue against the light. According to witnesses, two cars were traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. The witnesses say the man rushed to get out of the way, but was struck by a car heading southbound.

The driver of the vehicle that hit him stayed at the scene. Police say she had not been drinking.

The two cars that were heading north on 4th Avenue kept going, but they did not strike the man. The only description police have from witnesses is that they were dark-colored vehicles. There is no criminality suspected, although the accident is still under investigation.

The accident happened at 9:14 p.m.

The victim has not been identified, pending family notification.
