Nassau police say Jamie Garcia, 39, was pulled over on the side of Searingtown Road in Old Westbury early Friday when an officer approached in his cruiser.
Garcia sped away, police said, and the officer followed.
Garcia crashed lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a police at the corner of South Service Road of the Long Island Expressway.
The suspect got out of his car, and then started to run away, police said.
When the officer caught up to him, police say Garcia attacked him with a bat he had found in someone's backyard.
Garcia was finally subdued and handcuffed.
He's facing a slew of charges.
The officer was treated for injuries to his head and arm at a hospital and released.
