18-year-old Shequila Brown was found lying in the arterial by Saint Mary's Church Wednesday night.
Police say she was the victim of a hit and run and are asking anyone was in the area around 8:40 Wednesday night to come forward.
At Poughkeepsie High School, classmates were in mourning and in shock.
Friends say Shequila was active in the role model program for younger girls and was on track to graduate this spring.
