Veteran CBS newsman, former Eyewitness News reporter John Slattery passes away

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The Eyewitness News family is sad to report the passing of a former colleague here at WABC-TV.

Longtime newsman John Slattery died Wednesday night at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Slattery worked at WCBS-TV for the last 30 years.

Before that, he worked at Channel 7 for five years.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family.

Slattery was 63.

Funeral arrangements are pending

CBS 2 President and General Manager Peter Dunn released the following statement:

"We are saddened by the unexpected passing of our friend and colleague John Slattery. During his nearly 30-year career at WCBS, he was great at reporting the news and was someone we counted on to cover big stories for us, both here in New York and around the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with John's wife, Suzie, and their children and grandchildren."
