Several packages of frozen fruit sold from Walmart, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Target and Aldi are under voluntary recall due to listeria concerns.
SunOpta Inc's subsidiary, Sunrise Growers Inc., issued the voluntary recall of specific frozen fruit products linked to pineapple provided by a third-party supplier.
Some of the fruit was sold in the Tri-State area.
Listeria is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
However, healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Anyone concerned about an illness is urged to contact a physician.
So far, there have been no illnesses associated with this voluntary recall.
