GEORGIA (WABC) -- There is a new warning about those small, colorful detergent pods. The parents of a young boy in Georgia learned the hard way just how toxic they can be.

2-year-old Easton Hatfield's eyes are still red an irritated. On Monday, he managed to climb on top of the washing machine and get his hand on a detergent pod. Easton burst open the pack, and the chemicals inside got in his eyes.

The pods are tough to open, but kids can bite into them. An infant in Florida died in 2013 after eating one.

If detergent gets into a child's eyes, doctors say to wash with plenty of water, and to not scrub or rub the area.
