Manhattan fast-lap driver convicted of reckless endangerment, reckless driving

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The driver who recorded his 24-minute lap around Manhattan in his BMW was convicted of reckless endangerment and reckless driving Thursday.

Thirty-two-year-old Adam Tang, aka Afroduck, faces up to a year in jail at his sentencing on Dec. 8.

Tang was not present at the reading of the verdict and hasn't been in court since Tuesday, when a bench warrant was issued.

Tang, a Canadian citizen, posted the video of his 26-mile speed drive on YouTube in August 2013 and was arrested soon after.

"The city's roadways are not a racetrack," Manhattan DA Cy Vance said. "Adam Tang showed blatant disregard for our traffic laws, and this dangerous and illegal behavior, which he repeatedly flaunted online, placed lives at risk. His daredevil antics were rightly found to be reckless by a jury of his peers, and I would like to thank them for their service on this case."

Tang's lawyer didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. He has said there's no proof Tang acted recklessly.

The video shows the car stopping for some red lights, but Tang told authorities he ran one.
