An NYPD officer was injured in a hit and run in Midtown Manhattan Monday afternoon, and the driver fled the scene and appeared to jump the curb and crash a few blocks away.

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- An NYPD officer was injured in a hit and run in Midtown Manhattan Monday afternoon.

It happened 45th Street and Eighth Avenue, where the officer was struck after officers attempted to take a suspect into custody.

Police say during the time of the incident, 50-year-old Miguel Maldonado, who was wanted for violating parole and burglary, was inside a Blue Mazda.

Police are searching for a second suspect after one man was arrested in connection with the robbery of a 14-year-old boy with autism in Manhattan.

An officer exited his vehicle and attempted to remove him when he refused, stepped on the gas, and clipped the officer with the side of the vehicle.

Authorities say he drove five blocks, where he dumped his vehicle at 50th Street and 8th Avenue and fled into the transit system.

The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his back and ankle and was taken to Bellevue Hospital.

UPDATE: Police announced on November 18 that Maldonado was taken into custody in connection with this incident.

The investigation led to subway delays on the B and D lines.
