The American Red Cross is calling for blood donations as donations have seen a lull this summer.

Firefighters responded to 71 Montgomery Ave. just before 5 p.m. for reports of a fire in the vacant residential building, according to officials.
The organization said its national blood inventory fell by more than 25% since July 1.
There does not appear to be enough donated blood to meet demand among hospitals and patients in need, according to the nonprofit.
More gay and bisexual men will be able to donate blood after the Red Cross announced Monday it would follow recent guidelines from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
