11 hurt in Queens school bus accident

JAMAICA (WABC) -- Nearly a dozen people were hurt when a school bus was involved in an accident in Queens Tuesday morning.

The bus crashed around 7:20 a.m. at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and 183rd Street in Jamaica.

Authorities say 11 people suffered injuries, all considered minor.

The bus was carrying nine students who attend various schools in the area.

The students, the driver and the matron were taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital for observation.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, but there were preliminary indications the bus was struck by a speeding car while stopped at a traffic light.
