One of New Jersey's biggest rock stars is trying to give a boost to the state's poorest city. Jon Bon Jovi is scheduled to help volunteers build a new playground at Rafael Cordero Molina Elementary School in Camden Monday.

His Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation has become a big player in the network of charities trying to boost a city that consistently ranks as one of the nation's most impoverished. The group is also helping pay to turn vacant lots into landscaped public spaces.

Bon Jovi is also involved in a project to provide affordable housing in Newark.
